Hanami is a Japanse word that means to go and see flower.
Hana is flower and mi means to see.
It can be user for any flower or blossom, but when you just say you are going to go hanami that means you are going to see cherry blossom.
Usually people have parties under the trees.
There were time when freshmen's first job was to secure a place for hanami for the section he belongs to.
(Fiscal year start in April.)
